A multi-country survey of health institutions for the assessment of access to Disposable Medical Tools (DMT)

The overall purpose of this assignment was to assess the situation with regular, sustainable and multi-variant (not only syringes) access to Disposable Medical Tools (DMT) in institutions primarily working with HIV-positive patients and partner institutions (infectious hospitals, emergency rooms, pediatric wards) in 4 countries of the Central Asia region – Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.

Actual services provided:

  • Assess the MoH documents (Prikazi) about the availability of DMT in hospitals and the regulations regarding its use and utilization.
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with the head doctors of the selected hospitals will be provided to realize how planning and needs formulation are done.
  • Assess the most critical funding, allocation, and distribution issues for DMT procurement and supply.
  • Assess on-site procedures and regulations for the use of equipment and its utilization.
  • Facilitate discussion of survey draft reports in the sessions with all interested specialists in each country aiming to receive comments;
  • Submit four final reports of each country to the Central Asian AIDS Control Project with the corresponding recommendations.
